Kissimmee Counts on Kiosks To Extend Online Capabilities

Thanks to Web-based, self-service kiosks located throughout the city, citizens of Kissimmee, FL, will soon be able to complete a variety of government transactions online. Residents may check the status of license applications, pay fees, schedule inspections, and monitor the progress of land development projects. Until now, these functions required direct contact with a city customer service representative.

Community Development software from Innoprise Software, Inc., Orlando, FL, offers residents an upto-date view of the various phases and steps of land development processes.

"The kiosk negates the 'digital divide' for those citizens who do not yet have Internet access and allows them to benefit from our online services," says Tony Curtis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) manager for the city.

The first kiosk is being installed in Kissimmee's City Hall to reduce wait times for some 10,000 people who do business with the Development Services Departments each year. The city will then expand the kiosk deployment to include parks and recreation and police and fire services.

"We are looking at placing additional kiosks that offer similar services in city parks, Home Depot, Lowe's, government buildings, and post offices," says Michael Steigerwald, Kissimmee's community development director.
