Brasseux Named Deputy Commissioner for Federal Acquisition Service

The U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) Federal Acquisition Service announced that Barnaby (Barney) L. Brasseux has been appointed FAS Deputy Commissioner. Brasseux's appointment is effective immediately.

"I am pleased to announce that I have selected Barney Brasseux to be the Deputy Commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS)," said FAS Commissioner Jim Williams. "The skills, knowledge, and energy that Barney has already demonstrated as Acting Deputy Commissioner give me great confidence in his ability to lead the Federal Acquisition Service in this role. I believe he will be a great Deputy Commissioner."

Brasseux previously served concurrently as Acting Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner for Travel, Motor Vehicles, and Card Services. As Deputy Commissioner, Brasseux oversees the acquisition of more than $46 billion in products goods and services for Federal agencies. He manages the FAS workforce of more than 4,000 associates who help customers find, buy, and manage all Federal services other than real estate. His programs include the means by which agencies get information technology services, the Government's major contracts for obtaining telecommunications, and the management of more than 200,000 motor vehicles. Programs also include disaster relief for hurricane victims, equipment for the U.S. armed forces, travel arrangements for Federal travelers, and charge card usage.

In 1993 Brasseux joined GSA's Federal Supply Service, holding a variety of positions in the travel and transportation, services acquisition, and automotive organizations, and also served as the Chief of Staff. A past Chairman of the FSS Management Council, in 2001 Brasseux was appointed the Assistant Commissioner for Vehicle Acquisition and Leasing Services.

Brasseux is a member of the Senior Executive Service. He attended Louisiana Tech University and Louisiana State University - Shreveport, where his studies concentrated in marketing and business administration. Founded in 1949, GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government. GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government's total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,600 government-owned or leased buildings and 205,000 vehicles. GSA helps preserve our past and define our future, as a steward of more than 420 historic properties, and as manager of USA.gov, the official portal to federal government information and services.
