Spirited State Purchasers Bid Farewell to Pricey Paperwork
In April 2004, the Arizona State Procurement Office (AzSPO) awarded a contract for bond underwriting. This would hardly be considered newsworthy were it not for the fact that AzSPO awarded the contract without receiving a single sheet of paper from interested vendors.

Less-than-Lethal Weapons in Demand
Despite deaths occurring across the county believed to be linked to the use of Taser stun guns, more less-than-lethal weapons are imminent. Police in Denver and other areas of Colorado use beanbag shotguns and Pepperball guns already. Beanbag shotguns release small bags filled with approximately 50 grams of lead shot, while the Pepperball guns release spheres of pepper spray, dye, water, or talcum powder according to the circumstances. The balls are fired at about two-fold the speed of regular paint ball guns and are useful from up to 30 feet away. Future non-lethal products currently being developed include stun guns that to not require wires and a Taser gun that can strike targets from more than 50 feet away. Taser International is also working on a non-lethal land mine intended to be introduced in 2008. Over 100,000 Taser stun guns are in use in large cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix, and Philadelphia.
