Louisiana Lawmakers Approve Historic Hurricane Protection Plan
The Louisiana Legislature has unanimously approved the state's first comprehensive master plan for coastal restoration and hurricane protection. Passed Wednesday, just ahead of an Atlantic hurricane season forecast to be unusually active, the plan is designed to guide all coastal protection and wetland restoration projects in Louisiana over the next several decades.

U.S. Leads World in Wind Power Growth
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released its first Annual Report on U.S. Wind Power Installation, Cost, and Performance Trends: 2006, which provides a detailed and comprehensive overview of development and trends in the U.S. wind power market. Most notably, the Report concludes that U.S. wind power capacity increased by 27 percent in 2006; and that the U.S. had the fastest growing wind power capacity in the world in 2005 and 2006. More than 61 percent of the U.S.'s total wind capacity - over 7,300 Megawatts (MW) - has been installed since President Bush took office in 2001.

New Computer Model Predicts Crowd Behavior
Arizona State University assistant professor in the School of Geographical Sciences Paul M. Torrens is developing a computer model that will realistically simulate the reaction and behaviors of people in a crowd.

The U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) Federal Acquisition Service announced that Barnaby (Barney) L. Brasseux has been appointed FAS Deputy Commissioner. Brasseux's appointment is effective immediately.
