VA Breaks Ground on Spinal Cord Facility
During a ground-breaking ceremony for a world-class facility for spinal cord injuries in Milwaukee, WI, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson committed the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to expand programs and open new facilities for seriously disabled veterans with spinal cord injuries.

OMB, DoD, GSA Announce Data at Rest (DAR) Encryption Contracts
The Office of Management and Budget, U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. General Services Administration awarded 10 contracts for blanket purchase agreements (BPA) to protect sensitive, unclassified data residing on government laptops, other mobile computing devices and removable storage media devices. These BPAs could result in contract values exceeding $79 million.

NREL Estimates U.S. Hybrid Electric Vehicle Fuel
Hybrid electric vehicles have saved close to 230 million gallons; or 5.5 million barrels; of fuel in the United States since their introduction in 1999, according to a recent analysis conducted at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

State, Local IT Spending to Reach $77 Billion by 2012
Total state and local information technology (IT) spending is expected to grow from approximately $55 billion in 2007 to $77 billion by 2012, representing a compound annual growth rate of 6.6%, according to initial findings from the five-year State & Local IT Industry Forecast presented at INPUT’s State and Local MarketView Conference.
