NEWS SSA Taps Nortel to Lead Telephone Systems Replacement Project The Social Security Administration (SSA) has awarded a 10-year contract for the agency’s Telephone Systems Replacement Project (TSRP) to a team led by Fairfax, Va.-based Nortel Government Solutions. The contract, valued at up to $300 million, calls for replacement of SSA’s existing worldwide telephone systems with Internet protocol (IP) technology to create a converged voice and data network. GSA Awards $50 Billion Government-wide Contract for IT Services GSA said that the Alliant contract, which includes a five-year base with one five-year option, is a government-wide acquisition contract (GWAC) to provide federal government agencies a centralized source to acquire integrated information technology (solutions worldwide.) Air Force is Top Green Power Purchaser Among Public Entities Overall, the Air Force is fifth on the list, which ranks the top 25 green power purchasers in the agency's Green Power Partnership. The Green Power Partnership encourages private and public organizations to use renewable energy resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro in lieu of conventional electricity. DOE Seeks Industry Help to Design Next Gen Nuclear Plant The amendment, which was sponsored by Sens. Barack Obama, D-Ill.; Bob Casey, D-Pa.; Tom Coburn, R-Okla.; and Dick Durbin, D-Ill., bars DHS from awarding contracts and grants of more than $5 million unless prospective contractors and grantees certify in writing that they have no unpaid federal tax assessments or that they have entered into payment arrangements with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). NYPD Officers Can Purchase Uniforms Via Internet NYPD said that it established the new Web site as a result of a focus group meeting in which police officers told Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly that it was inconvenient for many of them to travel to police headquarters to make purchases.
