NEWS The Keating Report: Government Spending Should Remain Steady As we roll into the second half of 2007, government spending at the local, state and federal levels remains robust. According to Macroeconomic Advisers' latest Economic Outlook, the value of government purchases of goods and services should reach $2.7 trillion in 2007 a 5.8 percent increase over 2006 levels. Senator Pushes for Cancellation of Sun Microsystems Contract In a letter to General Services Administration (GSA) Administrator Lurita Doan, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) asks Doan to consider canceling the federal government's contract with Sun Microsystems unless the Santa Clara, Calif.-based technology company supplies sales records and other documents that Grassley requested for an audit. Pays Government $7.6 Million to Settle False Claims Act Allegations The Crane Co., a Stamford, Conn.-based manufacturer of engineered industrial products, has agreed to pay the United States $7.6 million to resolve allegations that the company violated the False Claims Act. Report Predicts Fourth-Quarter Federal IT Spending Spree According to a report by Reston, Va.-based INPUT, federal spending on information technology (IT) in the final months of the government's fiscal year 2007 should reach more than $20 billion over 33 percent of the federal government's total IT spend for the year.
