| | NEWS Manufacturer of defective bulletproof vests will pay $15 million Stamford, Conn.-based Hexcel Corp. has agreed to pay the United States government $15 million to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by manufacturing and selling defective zylon bulletproof vests to federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies.  Healthy boost in number of visitors to state parks The total number of visitors to state parks in the United States rose from 708.6 million in 2004-2005 to almost 725.4 million in 2005-2006. That's a 2.4 percent increase.  National Guard to deploy tactical lighting systems for its disaster-response teams The National Guard Bureau will add 17 BrightEye Visible and Covert Portable Illumination Systems from Cyberlux Corp., Durham, N.C., as a tactical lighting solution for its Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and High-yield Explosive (CBRNE) Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP) teams.  Security scanning device may eliminate shoe removal for airline passengers Walk-on metal detector will begin pilot testing at the Jacksonville (Fla.) International Airport this November.  ASPECT plane dispatched to Southern California for chemical analysis support The ASPECT planean emergency response tool operated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and supported by Los Alamos National Laboratoryhas been dispatched to the wildfires of Southern California to provide chemical analysis support to the EPA, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
